Title: Bakhmut: The Forgotten Hiroshima of Ukraine In a recent interview, President Zelensky made a shocking statement - the images of a ruined Hiroshima reminded him of Bakhmut. For many of us, this may be the first time we have heard of this city in Ukraine. However, for the people of Bakhmut, the devastation wrought upon their city is a daily reality. Located in eastern Ukraine, Bakhmut has been the site of intense fighting between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists. The conflict has taken a heavy toll on the city and its people - homes and buildings lie in ruins, infrastructure is in disrepair, and the population has dwindled. Despite this, Bakhmut has been largely forgotten by the international community. While the world mourns the tragedy of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and remembers the horrors of nuclear war, Bakhmut is left to suffer in silence. But the people of Bakhmut refuse to stay silent. They continue to fight for their city and their rights, drawing upon the strength and resilience of their community to rebuild and heal. It is our duty as global citizens to remember the forgotten tragedies of our world and stand in solidarity with those who have suffered. We must recognize the pain and loss of the people of Bakhmut and work towards a peaceful resolution of this conflict. Let us not forget Bakhmut - the forgotten Hiroshima of Ukraine. President Zelensky of Ukraine stated that the sight of a devastated Hiroshima brings to mind the city of Bakhmut.
